More trouble than they are worth. Collectors are abusive violating terms of the FDCPA. Violations include unprofessional abusive language and name calling to debtors. I have received from debtors where they have been threaten with jail time, arrest, law suits, and garnishments on small bills under $250 where it is not fiscally responsible to take such costly action.
Files have been mixed up frequently when debt validation is requested. Personal identifiable information on one debtor is sent to another in error.
Most questionable is the use of telephone messages in light of the new ruling setting predecedence with FDCPA with Edwards vs. Niagra Credit Soltutions where essentially a voice message and caller ID not disclosing the company name is a violation of communication laws. I have heard a numbr of voice mails sent by consumers where the company has claimed to be "Gase Waste", and Telemarketing Services. In one far fetched plea, the collector called leaving a message the debtor won the "lottery".
Beware.
