Review 3/8/2008

I have had a terrible experience with taking my vehicle to get serviced at Pep Boys in the last three months. I took in January of 2008 and according to them, the vehicle was ready. So, I paid 1600 dollars of which 1200 was for labor and the resting amount was on the parts replaced. Anyway, I asked them if the mechanic test drove and they answered yes. So I pulled it out of the parking lot and as soon as I was on the street driving, it I heard a CLACKING sound so drove the car back into the shop. Again, I asked if they had test drove it and they said they had.So one of the mechanics decided to take it for a test drive and when he brought it back said it was some prblem with the brake disc and that I should leave it so they can replace it at no cost to me. They called me the following day and said it was something with the axle and the arm that holds the wheel (the INITIAL PROBLEM) and went ahead and fixed it. So, I picked it up and took it home. Next day, I saw there was a puddle of oil that had leaked out of it and again I took it back. They had it fixed. Six weeks later, I am driving and the wheel falls out. Luckily, I was on the street so I wasn;t gojng as fast as I would have if I were on the freeway. I took the vehicle back and it turn out it was the axle which was nothing they had done wrong and it was completely a new problem and that I would not be charge. HMMM makes you wonder?
Service personnel were very kind. The problem here is that there is something called human error and it all could have been avoided if there was pride taken in the work they did such as test drive the vehicle and run a second check that all parts are screwed or bolted on right. I know these shops are sometimes overwhelmed with work and want to work promptly, but I had to take the vehicle back four times until they finally got it right and I am crossing my fingers on that last statement.
Unfortunately, this location is not the same Pep Boys it was five years ago. BAck then, I would have given it the highest rating.
