My wife and I went to Auto Advantage to see about a replacement car for one that had been totalled in an accident. The salesman, Ken Davis was very nice, helpful and friendly. He found the perfect car for us and we sat down to discuss price. I realize that I should have done more homework before going to a used car dealer, but . . .
I asked what the Blue Book was on the car and was told $16,000. Since the car was in beautiful condition we didn't mind paying a bit more for it. However, later, when I tried to get the loan approved, my lender told me that they would only lend $14,070 (which was 120% of the value).
They were extremely nice. They even had a tow truck bring our other car home because my wife can't drive after dark. My main objection was being told that the book value was one thing and the actual value was much less. I don't mind someone making a profit, but that much profit is extreme.
Before returning there and purchasing another vehicle I would arm myself with all the facts I could, or bring a portable laptop computer to check things out for my self on the Internet.
