ALERT - Improper Billing, Unrequested Services, Unordered Services and Product, Improper BIling to Insurance
|
In April of 2014 I ordered a new CPAP, Humidifier, Mask, and Hose. My insurance approved approximately $1650 and sent it to me. Americare asked me to send the check to them which I did. They acknowledged receipt in June of 2014. Then in October 2014 they improperly asked for my HIPAA data from my CPAP to "prove" I was using the system. I checked with my insurance carrier and my doctor and they knew nothing of such a request. When I refused to supply this data (and buy an automated reporting service from them), Americare said they had to refund the money to my insurer (I checked and my insurer said they had no idea what they were talking about -- they paid me and I paid Americare) - so Americare was incorrect. After that Americare started rebilling me for the CPAP, Humidifier, Mask and Hose for which I had already paid them plus other supplies I didn't order. I refused to pay those bills. I found that Americare tried repeatedly to bill my insurance carrier a total of $4980 which the insurer refused over and over again. I didnt even know what these services were -- but they were for unordered resupply, payment again for the CPAP machine etc and a claim that I didnt buy the CPAP but I rented it -- which is TOTALLY untrue. All documented by my insurer. Everything is documented including the fact that Americare deposited the check I sent them -- its all in the record guys. I dont know what Americare is trying to pull -- I just needed a new CPAP, humidifier, hose, mask. I didnt ask for a bunch of other stuff -- that behavior is quite predatory. AND you asking for private HIPAA related information and trying to bill my insurer for unordered (with no supporting doctors order) equipment and services -- WAY out of line. Now almost a year and a half or more on -- they are still trying to bill my old insurer -- that policy ended at the end of 2014. However, Americare tried to bill them again -- guys - this isnt going to end well. We have all the documentation so just cut it out -- go home.
